Event Introduction

Helsinki Day at Stoa features traditional dancing to fantastic music! 

The opening act of the evening is a dance music veteran: Marko Haavisto & Poutahaukat. After them, soulful Emilia Sisco & Northern Lights take their place on the stage. The final act of the evening is Eastern Helsinki’s own rap artist, Hassan Maikal. Joining everyone on stage are TARGET Helsinki, whose wonderful dancers raise the roof in between the music acts. The event emcee is Johanna Storck.

Restaurant Box Stoa will remain open during the event. 

Marko Haavisto & Poutahaukat released their 12th album, Onnentalo, in March. The band is also known from Aki Kaurismäki films and for the song, Paha vaanii.

Emilia Sisco blends soul, jazz and blues effortlessly into an enchanting soundscape with her powerful vocals and fantastic ability to weave stories into her lyrics. 

Hassan Maikal is a rap/R&B artist, whose debut album, Betonitarha, was incredibly well received by the music industry: four Emma nominations, including a nomination for Album of the Year. A highlight of the album is Yksinäistä (feat. ibe) with over 1.7 million listens on Spotify. Hassan is currently working on his second album, with new singles Päästit mut pois, Ketä me huijataan (feat.  Senya) and Isäongelmii already out.

In addition to these artist, the event also features artist group TARGET Helsinki. TARGET is an open-minded mix of modern dance and visual art in new environments, outside the traditional stages. On Helsinki Day, the Stoa Square is a fantastic opportunity for the group’s dancers to dazzle the crowd during the guest artist breaks.
