Ai within Art

Event Introduction

How do we value art made by AI compared to art created by humans? Can one tell the difference, and is it necessary? And how do your views differ from those of others? These are questions that the young artist trio Yuzy Nakamura, Mathilda Hahn and Nicolas Dolenc explore in their “AI within Art” exhibition that takes place and is open to the public on Helsinki Day.

The exhibition is set to spark a dialogue on the art landscape in the age of artificial intelligence. The works aim to challenge perceptions and stir debate on the valuation and appreciation of art created by AI compared to traditional human-crafted artworks.

The event is the brainchild of Yuzu and Mathilda, both design students at Aalto University School of Design, alongside the seasoned event producer Nicolas, known for his work on high-profile projects like Slush and the Tikkurila Festival. The event will feature printed posters of art sourced from artists featured on the art gallery platform Artmu and printed posters created by the organizers that aim to mimic human-made art. Participants will be able to guess which is which and compare their results with those of the other visitors to the event.

Nicolas’s printed poetry collection, “Answers to Love, Life, and Leadership in an AI-driven World,” will be published in conjunction with the exhibition. This collection explores themes closely aligned with those of the event, providing a literary perspective on the implications of AI in our cultural and personal lives.

“We’re excited to create this thought-provoking experience and hope to gather an audience as eager as us to explore our biases against and for AI within Art. The prospect of discussing this topic with guests before and at the exhibition is exciting for us. Not forgetting to celebrate the city we love along the journey!” says producer of the exhibition, Nicolas Dolenc.

Leading up to the event, we’re doing live interviews with many exciting personas discussing the subject, like Roope Rainisto, the CDO of Varjo and AI artist represented by the most valuable NFT art portfolio in the world, and Mikko Alasaarela, a thought leader and serial entrepreneur in the space of AI.
