Event Introduction

The House of the Estates was originally designed by the architect Karl Gustaf Nyström as a meeting place for the commoner estates of the Diet of Finland. It was inaugurated in 1891. Over the decades the building has also housed Committees of the Parliament of Finland as well as scientific and scholarly organisations. Today, the House of the Estates acts as a banqueting hall for the Finnish Government and hosts hundreds of events every year.

This year’s Helsinki Day marks the first occasion for the general public to explore the House of the Estates since the building was renovated between 2023 and 2025.

The House of the Estates is not wheelchair accessible, but staff are on hand to assist visitors with limited mobility.

A guided tour with audio description starts at 2.00 pm and takes approximately one hour. Please book your place on the audio tour in advance. Instructions will be posted on our website closer to the time.
