Helsinki Day at Cultural Centres: Gigs, Circus, Dance, and Festive Fun

Once again, Helsinki Day at the city’s cultural centres offers a colorful program of free events for all ages across the city. The lineup includes gigs, open-air dances, circus performances, community activities, and other festive fun, all reflecting the unique spirit of each neighborhood. Come join us!

Helsinki Day at Annantalo features music, theater, and art for the whole family from morning till night! Highlights include a joyful concert by the Päistikka orchestra, the “Living Helsinki” art workshop exploring local nature, and an improvised family play by Stella Polaris. Additionally, the Downtown Open Mic invites anyone interested to sign up and perform.

Helsinki Day at Kanneltalo is all about the joy of movement! Open-air dance brings an authentic ballroom atmosphere to Sitratori square, with Marita Taavitsainen & Koivu providing the rhythm. Don’t worry about rusty dance skills—dance instruction will be available on-site.

The free and open-to-all dance carnival continues with the whirls of Bollywood and street dance. The participatory performance “Back 2 the Future” will engage people of all ages, and the evening culminates in a spectacular “Fistful of Funk” performance by Will Funk for Food!

Helsinki Day in Malmi offers community art, dance, and top-tier evening gigs as Laineen Kasperi and F take the stage.

Laineen Kasperi is known as a rapper, producer, and a performer who truly shakes up the audience’s consciousness. Meanwhile, the Emma-awarded rap and R&B artist F released her new album Self-helpless in spring 2024—a tribute to being a work in progress. Come celebrate a summery city day at Ala-Malmi Square!

Rhymes will fly and the bass will roar as Maunula House’s summer square celebrates Helsinki Day in the spirit of rap, R&B, and hip-hop culture!

The stage will feature the unique Finnish rap duo Eevil Stöö & Kriso, as well as singer-songwriter Hassan Maikal, known as a poignant and bold storyteller. The evening opens with Hugo Toosi, while Renaz keeps the crowd moving with DJ sets between acts. Also joining the fun are the WEAREKREATIV dance school and a graffiti workshop by the Sanan Paino association.

On Helsinki Day, Stoa Square will be filled with the magic of circus arts!

Presented by Pro sirkus ry, the Helsinki Circus Festival pre-party offers a unique two-hour event featuring one incredible performance after another. The diverse program blends the charm of traditional circus with modern performance art—expect surprises for all ages!

Helsinki Day at Vuotori starts with a family concert by INDABA, a multilingual band playing infectious dance music. In Vuotalo’s lower courtyard, the “Welcome Day” event greets new residents who have recently moved to Finland. In addition to useful information, the event features exciting circus performances by Circus Simon and Säilättäret. The evening concludes with a fantastic show by Stig!

Kahlekuningatar  at Caisa Cultural Centre is a contemporary circus performance in which aerial acrobatics utilising metal chains open up perspectives on the relationships between power, control and the body. Circus artist Saana Leppänen’s solo performance examines gender inequality and dives into intersections of power and gender.
