Helsinki Day baby born at 00.09
The City of Helsinki celebrates the first baby born in Helsinki on the city’s birthday on 12 June. This year, the City extends its congratulations to the Hulkko family whose baby girl was born at 00.09.
The new Helsinki resident weighed 3360 g and was 51 cm long at birth.
As is tradition, Mayor Juhana Vartiainen visited the family and the new baby at the Women’s Hospital on the morning of Helsinki Day.
“My warmest congratulations to the new Helsinki resident and the baby’s family! Our primary goal is to make it possible for all city residents to have a good, entertaining and sustainable life well into the future. This baby may live to see the Helsinki of the year 2100. We are working today to make the city enjoyable tomorrow,” said Mayor of Helsinki Juhana Vartiainen.
The family received a Finnish-made Huomenta blanket by Paapii Design and a silk baby bonnet by Ruskovilla. The parents also received a bouquet of flowers and a letter of congratulations, according to which the baby will receive a gift cheque of €300 as soon as the baby has been baptised or entered into the population register.
The tradition of congratulating the first baby of Helsinki Day has been ongoing for almost 60 years: the first Helsinki Day baby was celebrated in 1965.
During the visit, Mayor Vartiainen greeted the midwives of the Women’s Hospital, which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.
