Puistola Cultural Walk

Event Introduction

We will begin our Puistola cultural walk at Maamiehenpolu on the leveled lot of the former Laihola house, which was once part of the area’s historic agricultural landscape before being destroyed by fire and subsequently demolished. Guidance will be provided from the corner of Laitatie and Laitakuja. From there, you can see the landscape of the Malmi Airport, where the Puistola Society organized a night singer listening excursion—the nightingale tour—for 41 consecutive years.

To start, we will enjoy flute music by Aune Reniers. Reniers will perform Sicilienne by Maria Theresia von Paradis on the flute in memory of the nightingale tours. After the performance, Leena Iisalo and Maija-Liisa Pennanen from the Puistola Society will lead a session sharing memories of the nightingale tours.

Next, we will move to the Aurinkotallit stables located at the edge of the future nature reserve, Aurinkomäenpuisto park, arriving at approximately 7:30 pm (Vanha Aurinkomäentie 4). We will hear about the estate’s history as a part of Puistola’s history, told by the founder of Aurinkotallit, Olavi Määttä. We will then explore the Aurinkomäenpuisto park itself under the guidance of biologist Juha Lindy.

The paths in the area are rocky and full of roots. Please remember to wear sturdy footwear and dress according to the weather. Although there are no actual wetlands, rubber boots are highly recommended in wet weather.

NOTE! It is recommended to arrive at the meeting point by 6:50 pm.
