Launch of Niklas Bengtsson’s book ‘Satu-Suomi: Suomalaisia sadunkertojia’
Event Introduction
Niklas Bengtsson is honouring Helsinki Day by telling the public about his new book featuring Finnish storytellers. The book explores the works of 19th century and early 20th century writers, such as Elias Lönnrot, August Ahlqvist, Minna Canth, Larin Kyösti, Joel Lehtonen and Mika Waltari, who most people associate with adult literature. Zachris Topelius and Rietrikki Polén, who wrote children’s stories for magazines, are also featured. The political and societal elements in fairy tales highlight the forgotten history of our storytelling culture.
