Event Introduction

Cinema Orion plays Helsinki-themed short films on Helsinki Day 12 June 2022 at 1 p.m.–3 p.m. Admission is free!

This Helsinki Day special features the second premiere of the fantastically-restored documentary classic Eläköön nuoruus! (1968) by Jaakko Pakkasvirta. It follows the hottest rock band of the time, Blues Section (Jim Pembroke, Hasse Walli, Ronnie Österberg and others). Also played are Antti Peippo’s Helsinki documentaries Seinien silmät (1981), Viapori-Suomenlinna (1972), Sivullisena Suomessa (1983) and Valtakunnan sydän (1989).

The total duration of the films is 82 min.

Film historian Jari Sedergren, senior researcher at the National Audiovisual Institute, docent of film and television studies, provides an introduction to the films with the topic “Helsinki in documentary and short films”.

Free tickets to the screening can be redeemed from 31 May.
