Amusing letters from the days of Topelius

Event Introduction

Zachris Topelius, the most prolific and versatile writer of 19th-century Finland, was an author, a storyteller, a poet and even a history professor. He worked as the editor of the Helsingfors tidningar newspaper from 1842 until 1860 and modernised its content. Among Topelius’s most popular new additions were letters to an imaginary character called Lieutenant Leopold and the animated and humoristic tone that he injected into his columns about Helsinki’s current affairs. Join us in the museum for a reading of Topelius’s entertaining letters from a bygone era.
