Helsinki Day at the Cultural Centres: Music, Circus and Summer Vibes

Helsinki’s cultural centres offer a colourful array of experiences on Helsinki Day: music, circus, art, cotton candy, clowns, open-air dancing – and above all, a sense of community. Each centre celebrates the day with its own distinctive local spirit.
Annantalo 9:30–20:00
At Annantalo, Helsinki Day dives into the world of circus!
On the backyard stage, Blind Gut Company presents the heartwarming circus performance Like a Fish in a Tree, and throughout the day you can craft magical spinning tops and create circus-themed drawings of Helsinki. Clowns Bella and Siss teach the art of clowning, and the day culminates in a cheerful clown parade. For young people, there’s the Downtown Open Mic at the Annantalo A-stage from 6 PM onwards. Puffy Mini Pancakes café will serve delicious treats from 9 AM to 6 PM.

Kanneltalo 13:00–19:30
At Kanneltalo, Helsinki Day is celebrated at Sitratori Square with a vibrant circus atmosphere!
Blind Gut Company’s circus performers and Red Nose Company’s clowns entertain visitors, face painting transforms festivalgoers into circus characters, and a flow arts workshop invites everyone to try new skills. A literary walking tour and the floral-themed Hupsansaa workshop bring colour and joy to the square. The musical highlight of the day is the interactive Back 2 the Future concert. The event also celebrates the newly greened oasis of Sitratori.

Malmitalo 11:00–21:30
Ala-Malmi Park fills with music and summer vibes on Helsinki Day!
The programme includes nature walks, art workshops, a wheel of fortune, the lively Skidit Disco led by DJ Orkidea, and stunning performances by indie pop star Goldielocks and the evening’s headliner, Michael Bleu. During the day, you can also join the summer evening dance, led by Tsuumi’s dance instructors, and enjoy the treats at the summer market.

Maunula House 17:00–20:15
At the Maunula House plaza, Helsinki Day is celebrated to the rhythms of jazz!
Performances include the energetic brass band Bronze, Silver & Brass and the internationally acclaimed saxophonist Timo Lassy. Smooth As Butter DJ collective will set the mood with soulful tunes, and music lovers can browse the Digelius Music pop-up record store and enjoy coffee from Månsas Deli’s mobile café.

Stoa 17:00–20:15
At Stoa Square, Helsinki Day is filled with music and dance!
The rhythmic HOPP rope-skipping performance invites the audience to join in, and Ykspihlajan Kino-orkesteri takes listeners on a journey through beloved schlager tunes and film music. The evening closes with ANI, one of the most exciting new pop artists of the moment. There will also be summery workshops and treats from the Box Stoa restaurant.

Vuotalo 10:00–19:00
At Vuotalo, Helsinki Day is full of events from morning till evening!
The day starts with family concerts featuring Vuomu’s Näppärit orchestra and the Giant Music Playgroup, followed by a cheerful concert with Arne Alligator. In the afternoon, join the Dream Open-Air Dance and try some Asahi wellness exercises. The opening of the new Art Yard invites creativity with sled kite workshops, and the day culminates in a concert by Anssi Kela at Vuotori Square.
